Internet provider seems to be blocking Tor

Hello people.

My ISP seems to have started blocking Tor. I can no longer connect, but if I connect to a different provider through a mobile hotspot from the same computer it works fine.

Is there anything I can do? Have tried bridges but it doesn’t seem to make any difference.

Thanks

You should be able to get in using the snowflake protocol in the settings

Use snowflake or meek-azure bridges

First, are you using your own modem/router or an ISP provided/branded modem/router? If using ISP provided hardware there may be a built in Firewall(Sometimes 2) that are hidden in their settings, and they purposely block Tor, DNSCrypt servers, etc

What does the Tor log say when you try to connect?

Tor’s documentation is surprisingly good on this topic. I’ll assume you can access it over the hotspot, so here’s a couple good links

Download dnns probe from f Droid, let’s u know if things are censored on the network

What’s snowflake and how do I get it ?

This might slow down your connection, but you could try a vpn before connecting to tor.

Shouldn’t you use a VPN and a bridge with TOR?

VPN and bridge. But set up the VPN before accessing tor, don’t do it the other way around. Have the vpn on first.

If you’re in a country where tor isn’t blocked you could try calling your ISP and asking them about it, if they are censoring tor for no reason then you can at least give them shit for it.

Interesting. I only tried the standard bridges. Snowflake did indeed work. Thank you very much.

it wont work it saying tor browser couldnt connect to tor

How do you use snowflake? I’m having the same issue. Keeps saying isp blocking connection to Tor

According to another comment from OP standard bridges did not help, Snowflake however did.

tor browser cant connect to tor

Snowflake is one of the default built in bridges you can choose to use, just go to bridges and select “select a built in bridge” and choose Snowflake, it should be the second one, below obfs4 and above meek-azure

Generally speaking, this is not recommended. I’ve recently heard there are use cases in which layering with a VPN might be beneficial, but don’t just do so without checking to make sure your opsec practices are legit.
