When the VPN is active, nothing on my computer that requires internet works (browsers, torrents, etc). A page will just load and then time out like there is no internet connection at all. I’ve updated the app, tried deleting and reinstalling, and even disabled my antivirus just to see if that was interfering.
This has been an issue for a couple of months and I haven’t found any way of resolving it. It’s been happening no matter where I am so I don’t think my router is the issue, either. Has this been an issue for anyone else?
Hey there. Thanks for reaching out. In this case, I’d recommend changing the connection protocol if you haven’t done so already. To do so, go to the Surfshark app - Settings - VPN Settings - Protocol. If the issue persists, give the other protocols a try as well. However, if all of your apps suffer the same issue there could be something interfering with your connection as our community mentioned like a restrictive network or the antivirus. Are u in a network restricted area? if you are not, it probably user error. Contact support or try manual connection.
A far stretch, but check your VPN settings - advanced - use small packets (router compatibility). Also check your firewall (logs) and rules or disable it for a test and troubleshooting. When using an AV with an integrated firewall (Norton for example), check or disable the firewall.
So I had this issue too, I just purchased surfshark 2 days ago and ever since, I can only use the chrome extensions and the mobile app, and not the windows client. I have tried several methods:
- changing VPN protocols
- changing servers
- changing some VPN settings
- manually connecting
- flushing DNS via cmd
- resetting my network via windows
- retarting my router
- reinstalling the windows client
- installing legacy windows clients
- sending diagnostics to the support
- contacting the support via live chat
… and yeah none of these worked for me. I dont have any 3rd party firewall or antivirus software, I just have my windows security. I used to have both express and nord VPNs but I already uninstalled them, but the issue of my wifi not having any internet after succesfully connecting to the VPN still persists. So, what helped me? Note: Just keep in mind that this will forget your current wifi (*if you’re using wifi) so just keep the credentials ready so that after restart, you can connect to it again. Also, other protocols seem to have another isue of the VPN not being connected at all, so I only used the OpenVPN UDP one.
Switching the protocol did the trick! Wireguard works but the other did not. Thanks!
