I can't connect to the internet when my VPN is turned off

Im running Opera GX, but the ERR_QUIC_PROTOCOL_ERROR pops up when the VPN is turned off. I’m able to access Steam and anything else just fine. It’s only internet browsers, as Chrome, Bing, and everything else do not work, but for some reason I can connect to the internet when the Opera GX VPN is on. I’d like to be able to turn off the VPN as it causes videos to stop and load nearly continuously and is always flipping settings, making some things very annoying. This may also be related, but I can’t launch Discord from the app anymore; I can only access it from the Web version. I’m hoping to fix that too.

Did you look at your routing table and see where your default route is pointing too?

Did you install Opera GX on windows?

I had a similar issue where all browsers would suddenly not connect. Turns out it was my Nord VPN app - within it you have the “Web Protection” feature. once this was disabled all problems went away like magic! -

the vpn is built into the browser? i can turn it off whenever, and even disable it, but im not sure ill be able to access anything afterwords,

im going to be honest im not sure how to access that and or change it if it was wrong

Open Command Prompt and type route print,
Then scroll a little up until you see IPv4 Route Table.
The first line will show your default route for anything going to the internet. Typically
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
That is destination and net mask
Which means 0.0.0.0 any destination that’s different from your local network
Netmask 0.0.0.0 would be any netmask that is different from your network
that traffic will be sent to your gateway typically your router’s LAN IP address.
Then there is Metric which means if you have multiple 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 lines windows will send internet traffic usually to the gateway with the lowest metric number.

bruh i said in the post that its all internet browsers, something is blocking them from access from the internet but for some reason the vpn on opera gx is able to access the internet when on.

sorry for responding late, what am i looking for when i open this, im there

If you have more than one default gateway it starts with 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 gateway IP 192.168.1.1 or whatever your routers IP address is….
Usually there will be only one line stating with 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 that will point to your router with the lowest Metic number for internet access access.
If you have another line starting with 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
That could be your VPN connection and shouldn’t Jane the lowest Metric.
