How to set up VPN for Synology NAS?

I have a DS723+ device and I usually use it for file and media archiving. I can watch movies I download from Download Station on my TV via Plex. However, I am not sure how secure the download process is. I have not been able to successfully set up a VPN for Torrent. I have looked at the topics, some have said to install Docker, some have suggested other programs, etc., but there is no guide that explains step by step how to install them or I could not find it. I cannot say that I know much about these things.

So if there is a list of instructions that I can follow to set up a VPN and configure other settings if necessary to download Torrents safely, can you please share it?

I used this guide https://drfrankenstein.co.uk/qbittorrent-with-gluetun-vpn-in-container-manager-on-a-synology-nas/ with Windscribe which offers a Wireguard profile. Before that I used it with PIA which used OpenVPN. (be sure to change “Any adapter” to the “tun0” one in Qbit advanced settings).

Once you are up, then simply go to a website like IPLeak, activate the Torrent Address detection and add the magnet address to your Qbittorrent to confirm that the connection is over your VPN and not your ISP address.

Thank you for your quick answer.

So what are your experiences with OpenVPN?

I think its use is more popular. I come across it in many places.

No worries! OpenVPN is perfectly fine, but Wireguard is a newer protocol that has better speeds. With PIA/OpenVPN I was getting between 25-40MB/s but with Windscribe/Wireguard it is between 40-60MB/s on my 1200/120 connection.

Edit: I forgot to mention that in my experience, both methods were stable for me (set it and forget it).

Ok. Thank you for your all help.

I will try this guide.
