I’m trying to host a vpn on a windows pc that I am able to join from my iPhone, how would I go about this? TIA
Note: I’m a beginner when it comes to networking stuff, but I have a little experience from setting up a Minecraft server

Install and configure OpenVPN or Wireguard server on your PC. Set up appropriate port forward on your router - OpenVPN default is UDP 1194 and Wireguard default is UDP 51820. Install and configure OpenVPN or Wireguard client on your phone.
If your internet connection has a dynamic IP address (most do) you will probably want to set up DDNS (dynamic DNS) as well. Do it on your router if it supports it. If not, it can be done on Windows too.
There should be a load of guides on the internet and YouTube about setting up the VPN server. The info I gave above should get you started on what to look for.
Your a beginner, right? So, sign up for TailScale (free), install it on your PC at home, install it in your laptop. Set the PC as an “exit node”, and approve it on the website, connect from laptop select the exit node and you’re done. Well, you should be done. No ports to mess with, no learning WireGuard (TS uses WireGuard), no messing with much really at all.
Why do you want to do that? Maybe there is a better solution for your problem.
If you wanna access your home network with a VPN for whatever like a file share or using your PC you have a couple of ways. I recommend openvpn because it will let you use samba and you get setup a raspberry pi to run a openvpn access server (which you can get all the info for for free and it’s pretty simple to setup) or you could setup a pivpn. I just switched to the access server because you can login to a portal and retrieve your VPN key.
Thanks! I’ll look into those. I tried googling guides beforehand but the ones I found were pretty old and didn’t really achieve what I wanted
I wanted to play clash Royale in school, but it’s blocked on the school WiFi. I tried getting a free vpn and it let me play, but it limited my bandwidth and they’re probably selling my data. So I want to host my own vpn that uses my WiFi at home
I don’t need all that, if you look at my other comment I just want this to be able to play clash Royale
Modern problems require modern solutions. Listen to the other guy who posted. Get a pi and run wireguard on it.
Read my other comment it’s a way better solution
Could I just do it on my pc instead of a pi?
Didn’t realize that was you, I’ll try that
I’ll have to try it tomorrow in school, but I just got that vpn and it’s giving me much better speeds then the other free vpn I was using. thanks for the suggestion
Theoretically yes the only problem is that you would port forward your PC and you could hacked. However since you are just trying to play a game cloudflare has this free VPN called 1.1.1.1 on the app store try that if it didn’t work the school blocked it
Why would anyone ever use a free vpn for gaming? Data limit, slow as shit, limited servers, risky as hell…
