I want to add Startpage and Google. Standard firefox ways of adding engines don’t seem to work.
Using Google with that browser just defeats the purpose
This post is 1 year old, excuse me for the necroposting
The only way to do it if right-clicking the search bar doesn’t work is to edit the mozlz4 file in the profile folder (which you can find from about:support) using the mozlz4 editor on the firefox extension store.

I had the same query and couldn’t enable it until I set a seperate search bar location (instead of using the default address url space to search for things). After that you can enable custom search engines via a little popup prompt in separate search bar
How am I compromising it? I just want to use Google search, it’s as simple as that.
what’s wrong with enabling a custom search engine if it’s a highly private one like Searx?
nvm this only works in new window not tab
The popup shows only the existing/supported search engines. Is there a working way to add google search engine?
Your literally letting google track you, use duckduckgo or another search engine that’s private. Even use mallvad search.
Google good but they track everything you do.
I know that they do, but I willfully pay this price to get best search results. I can’t trade search quality to privacy in this case, that’s my choice. And no, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want maximum privacy in other areas, where it’s not such hard tradeoff. That’s why I try to use mullvad browser.
I see where your coming from. Mullvad search engine btw is pretty much googles but without the tracking. Check it out.
I’ve been using duckduckgo for months and really liking it.
