I have tried using VPN (I use ExpressVPN) and removing sim card, but still getting to “No connection to internet” error. Has anyone tried anything that could work? Thank you!
Install opera, then Google how to turn on vpn (free) with opera, select the region you wanna browse TikTok from, then done 
You don’t need a VPN you need a foreign SIM card. Try to get an eSIM and then turn off your HK /sim
I can do it with an iPad (or devices without a SIM card) and VPN
- Buy a flight ticket,
- Take the flight,
- Use TikTok
- Come back.
Take out SIM card and use vpn

Out of curiosity, why do you need to use TikTok and refuse to use the local / Chinese version of it (Douyin)? To be honest you gonna need legit vpn plus another region of store app in order to use TikTok and it probably is not worth it for normal user.
