High ping using VPN

Alright so I am in a difficult position.

I live in a institution and got myself an high end game PC.
This institution offers wireless internet however it is slightly censored I can surf any site but I can’t connect to servers from games.

To bypass this I use an Hotspot shield elite to connect with servers. Although I am able to connect I am left with ping going around 200-600 that can sometimes skyrocket to 1400. I have no idea how this occurs since my last computer did just fine using the same VPN.

Any ideas how to fix this problem?
Contacting provider or modem is out of the question.

Ask your boss.He probably plays videos games too lol

But seriously, nothing really can be done in this case.Every time you connect to a VPN it might connect you to a different server.A server can be located in a different continent, which will result in a higher ping.

Even if the VPn connects you to the same server and its very close to you and the destination game server, there might be lots of people using that VPN server at that time, which will result in higher load and increased latency.VPNs have never been a great option for gaming.

Im betting its the VPN service, and honestly I dont think there is much you can do about it.

Don’t use Hotspot Shield. I used to have it.

It’s not a very good VPN service. Go for something better like PrivateInternetAccess (what I have). I can get pings of 50ms with it on some games. Also, I get 15-20 megabits per second on a network that’s usually 30-35. So it’s a very high quality network that they have at PIA.

I get some fairly fast results with Hola (free), tho I don’t need to use it much. I also use Japan and Romania through Hola, as they have the fastest national average speed. Don’t know if it matters or not, but the odds are better that I connect to a high speed VPN there.

The boss left the internet business to an separate IT-Sector and they are not willing to cooperate even though they say using VPN is agreeable. And I know VPN isn’t a great option for games but It’s all I have.
If there are other options to bypass besides VPN then please let me know.

Also the weird thing is that my old computer works perfect with the same VPN and same Internet. The question is rather why this computer acts up using this VPN/Internet.

Not that I encourage you to break your company policies, but VPN is your best and only option I think.

Use a different VPN provider like HideMyAss or Cyberghost, or some other service that allows you to manually choose which server to connect to.At least this way you can connect to a server that is in your country or close to your game server. That’s the best you can do.Hotspot Shield is garbage and should be avoided. They have a shady record

I can’t find a trial version of HideMyAss or such (I don’t want to buy software that I am not sure that will or won’t work). Cyberghost won’t connect.

Any other VPN providers that might be usefull?
