[Help/Question] DD-WRT SoftEther VPN & Port Forwarding

Hey everyone,

I’ve been playing around with DD-WRT for a while and it has been working great. I decided I wanted to make use of the SoftEther VPN Server service.

I followed the following guides for configuration:

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=306483

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=307673

These were super helpful and the VPN server is running. On my Windows computer with the SoftEther VPN Client Manager on it, I am able to connect remotely. I can access my home network and the networked devices on my LAN remotely. So, great! But I’m having some issues.

I believe my issues come down to Port Forwarding but I’m not sure. There are a list of ports that the guides say to forward out. I have it configured this by using Port Range Forwarding to IP:192.168.1.1 (my LAN IP).

UDP:500,1701,4500
TCP:443,992,555
Both:1194

I believe I have these ports forwarded because… the VPN works when I’m off-network. I am able to connect. However, when I use a site like Port Checker: https://portchecker.co it says it is not reachable.

I did enable the L2TP option in my SoftEther Server configuration and I am unable to connect on anything at all other than Windows WITH the SoftEther client. It does not work through Windows standard VPN setup or Mac’s L2TP setup or my iPhone’s L2TP setup.

Also, should I be able to ping my WAN IP while off-network if there are open ports? Because I cannot.

I’ve had issues in the past with Port Forwarding Port 80 / 443 due to my ISP possibly blocking this function. However, I do have the SoftEther client set to 443 and it connects! So I don’t know what’s up!

Any insight or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks (:
