Chrome is very useful, but since I listened to some podcasts about privacy in the internet, this tracking thing is bugging me and I can’t get over it
I checked DuckDuckGo, but found it useless for searching in my native language.

I use StartPage with Firefox and DuckDuckGo with Brave. StartPage is much better than DuckDuckGo and I never need to go to Google search.
Hey, I’ve been using startpage for some time now and can second that it is an excellent replacement for google !!
Also, if you are using it in your phone (firefox), then you will have to add the search engine ! for this the search string is : Startpage Search Results
I think, only con is your friends giving you a weird look when you say ‘let me startpage that’ !
Enjoy and congratulations on choosing privacy !
Your browser (Chrome) and your search engine are two separate things. Even if you use a different search engine, Chrome will still gather data about you, particularly if you’re logged in. I’d recommend switching to Firefox or one of its derivatives.
As for startpage: I sometimes use it (via the !sp bang in Duckduckgo) because for me image search in DDG is been broken recently. Search results are fine though.
Startpage works realy well for me. Brave search or ecosia works nice as well but i will put them bellow startpage. Duck duck go gives wierd results and i skipp using it. Don’t use google and chrome browser and don’t miss it.
Best for privacy is searx.neocities.org
I use Firefox with the Arkenfox settings (you can change them to be less annoying) and this as the standard search engine
Results are very different, so if I need something for a specifc topic, I take startpage and thats it.
Just dont centralize anything to a specitic server (cough Reddit)
On Firefox desktop to add a new search engine you often need the addon “add custom search engine”. Delete the preinstalled ones if you are on Linux, as they send your exact operating system along all the time. You can often set a new one right clicking on the search bar when being on for example startpage.com
I used to use Startpage until it locked me out until I completed a captcha. No time for the crap. I switched to Brave and am pretty happy with it…
Used it for years. Nothing bad to say about it. I am happy with it.
Use Brave browser with the Brave search engine or presearch.
Decent, google search with no adds and data collection.

On the desktop, yes. On the phone I’m happy with Brave browser and search engine. Never searched with Google on my Pixel 7.
Startpage is add central
I personally don’t like Startpage, it doesn’t bring up what I want.
It uses Chrome’s platform. But, that’s it. Hence the privacy and security are way better with it than using Chrome. Big differences.

If you use Startpage, you’re doing nothing but still using and supporting Google because that’s where the results come from. And you’re still subjecting yourself to Google’s blatant censorship and probably to its surveillance too.
I used to not trust this search engine, first because of the non-relevant results, then because of the censored results (when the search engine showed only Google results already filtered for all regions). But I kept coming back to SP again for interest. It’s working well now. It is now my primary search engine on all platforms and browsers.
I stopped using it because it was slow.
I was pretty happy with Startpage for a while until I started getting constantly blocked and having to fill out a captcha, probably because I use a VPN but it also seems to happen when I do a search using quotation marks. Using DDG now until I find a better alternative.
