Does anyone know how to configure NordVPN using the built-in Windows 10 VPN?

I’ve been trying to connect to a NordVNP server using the Windows 10 built-in VPN but it keeps giving me errors that the “connection to the server was interrupted”.

I tried following this guide on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17yGOdfQoRM), but it still didnt work. The video is 5 years old though, so I figured something might have changed on Nords side since that time.

Has anyone managed to get it work?

Yeah you can set up a connection that way. They have a guide on how to do that here: Connect to NordVPN (IKEv2/IPSec) on Windows – Live Chat, VPN Setup, Troubleshooting | NordVPN Customer Support

Curious topic. Why would one want to do that?

I followed all the steps and in the end when I tried to connect an error showed up: Policy match error.
Does anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks. I saw this, but it seemed way more complex than just selecting “Automatic” like in the video.

Seems like the only option though, so I’ll give it a try.

In case you didn’t want to trust Nord’s app

Using NordVPN on a machine running in Windows 10 S mode. And yes, I intend to keep it in S mode, because reasons.

Are there performance compromises with that strategy? Any other downsides?

Downside I see, other then the complexity, is that sometimes they shift server IP addresses around. The app would handle that by picking best available. You would have to manually change that yourself. I had the same thing happen to me with an openVPN config file I put into a docker container. Once I realized, I had to go hunt down a new server IP/ovpn file.

Not sure about performance or security compromises.

Cool. I am trying to research what you get, other than another layer of “trust”. In other words, what problem would one be solving by using that strategy.
