It took me a little while to realize that the reason behind failed FaceTime calls was the VPN being on. I couldn’t take them from my iPhone or MacBook. It will say “connecting” but it will hang up before even making the connection. When making a FT call, I would hear it calling, and calling, and without a response from the other end, but the other person will tell me “it’s not even ringing”. So frustrating!
Is anyone else facing this issue? Apple says is Exp. VPN issue and I’m sure Exp. VPN will say it’s Apple’s fault…
It shouldn’t affect your ability to use FaceTime. I make and receive calls on FT while connected to our VPN (just tried again).
Can you provide some more details so I can try to replicate please? Which iOS version are you on? Which location are you connected to in the ExpressVPN app? Do you have Network Protection on?
If you tried to contact support already, do you have a reference number you can DM me? Happy to reach internally to check on it.
Hi, I did contact support and the solution I was given wasn’t very convenient. I was told to uncheck the box for “Stop all internet traffic if the VPN disconnects unexpectedly.” on my Macbook and to toggle off the “Block internet when unable to connect or reconnect to VPN” on my iPhone which I can do if I am the one placing the call… but what about when someone else is trying to call me? The call won’t come through. And if I left those unchecked all the time, isn’t it making my internet connection less secure? Therefore defying the purpose of having a VPN? =/
Edit: Forgot to mention mi iOS 16.3.1 and MacOS Ventura 13.2. I tried a few different locations all within the US.
