Hi all! I’ve been living in China for 2 years and I really miss using my Google Home and Chromecast. Is anyone able to get these to work? Will a VPN router work with them?
How much do VPN routers usually cost and do they work well??

They work fine with a router and ExpressVPN.
Buy a router compatible with their firmware in China and flash their firmware (make sure you get the new firmware that is in beta).
They will let you use OpenVPN but their firmware is easier to use and more reliable. The beta still doesn’t have all the options of the prior stable release (for example no media player option) but works well.

I have two Chromecasts in Shanghai and they work great. I have a linkfree VPN router to run it.
If you don’t feel comfortable flashing a router (I know I didn’t), you can buy a router with DDW-RT installed as the OS and find a VON provider that supports it, which is quite a few of them, IIRC.
You can check this guide for more info on how to flash the router app. BTW, the standard version firmware seems to be working again.
