Can I use virtual desktop to stream remotely over VPN or similar?

Hi, I’ve got a PC for vr and a quest through which I can play using link or virtual desktop, but VD has been a better experience for me.

Does anyone use VD through a VPN successfully? I’ve heard of people using Shadow for vr gaming with quest, but wondered if anyone can suggest or confirm ways to make this work well with your own PC?

P.S. please tell me if there’s a better sub to ask this in

If you are having issues with Link/ Air Link or Virtual Desktop, please check the wiki articles for support Virtual Desktop / Link. If this is not a post related to an issue with Link or VD, please disregard this comment.

You can play over the internet yes, you don’t need a VPN. See last question in the FAQ on the website

u/ggodin sorry to bother, but do you have any opinion or suggestion?

I tried with my phone shared connexion some times ago. And it worked. No stuttering but laggy due to the phone 4g speed.
Also I wasn’t behind a VPN.

A somewhat related question, can the same be done with airlink? I know out of the box the answer is no, because airlink uses, I forget the standard…, Whatever it’s called, it’s for discovering devices on a local network. What I’m wondering is there a way to fool airlink that it would see a remote connection as a local one?

It works brilliantly, thanks!

I’m incredibly impressed at the quality of your streaming. It’s considerably better than Steam’s own remote play, and they have almost unlimited resources.

That’s awesome, thank you!

Can I ask one question about it, what’s the security around remote connections? I only have to provide my username, which is easily discoverable. Is there any other security around this

Only you signed-in to your Oculus account on a Quest can access your PC. All traffic is encrypted end-to-end so its very secure.

Ok thanks for the confirmation!
