Hi, I’m currently in Norway, but would like to cast some UK TV to a Google Chrome Cast. I need to use a VPN to get the UK TV, but from what I can gather, it won’t let me cast to Chrome Cast, as the IP addresses are now different. Is there a way around this?
Your phone doesn’t cast “to” the TV. It sends a message to the device to initiate its own streaming connection. Therefore, the actual streaming is done over the other device’s connection.
I have Chrome Cast with VPN. It works fine with American Channels, but has never worked here with BBC iplayer, for example. It works with Hayu, though. You have to test it, I guess. Good luck.
I have found with my personal VPN, no, it won’t work, but on the Google One VPN, it works just fine.
I found same issue- watching UK TV in Norway, a way I found worked was using the VPN on my laptop and using an HDMI cable to connect to the TV. Not ideal, but also struggled to find another working way.
But why does it matter whether I’m connected to a VPN or not?
How did you manage to do that, as I don’t think you can select a location with Google One Vpn?
Thanks! I’ve only got my phone with me, otherwise, that’s a good shout.
Because the connection is negotiated based on the characteristics of the connection that is initiating the streaming. They may differ from that of the TV, e.g. resulting in an IP block or whatever.
You cannot select a location with the Google VPN, but it works just fine with Google services like casting.
That leads me to believe that Google VPN is pretty weak. Choosing the location is a major reason why I have a different one.
