I love my Kobo (mostly because I hate Bezos/Amazon), but I really want to get hold of a book that is only available in the Canadian store, but not available in the UK.
I’ve tried looking for dodgy PDF copies etc with no luck, and I’d rather the author actually got paid rather than me illegally obtaining the book. Is there a way (e.g. VPN) for me to buy the book in the Canadian store and sync to my UK account?
Thanks!
You can choose another country or region at Kobo store.
https://www.kobo.com/us/en/choose-your-country and pick “Other”.
You can also buy the gift card with your UK account and use it to buy books in Canada stores. I’m using the send the gift card option and buy gift card and send it to my email.
What book is it? A lot of Canadian publishers sell ebook copies on their website.
You can’t use a VPN with kobo anyways, at school I used a VPN to check my wishlist and after a couple times it restricts the account if there’s a VPN
One of the major downsides to e-books: You are fucked to the region you are from. You cannot buy the e-book from another country or you have to go through a lot of trouble in order to do it. With Amazon, I have a Kindle registered to the US and another Kindle registered to Japan - and use a VPN for purchases. It’s bullshit.
One solution is to buy the physical copy…
I can select it, but since I’m signed on and already have an account it redirects me to the UK store every time. Am I missing something?
Is this one:
https://www.waterstones.com/book/9780007291564
(And yes, I know the subject matter is a little strange! It’s the book “Kissed” is based on which is also unavailable in this country)
That’s annoying, but thanks
I dont get why they make it hard to buy stuff from other regions, like dont they want our money? Especially when its so easy to pirate in most cases -_-
Like when i bought my first reader i wanted a kindle, but amazon didnt have a site in my country so i couldnt buy it, and if i tried any of the neighbouring countries they couldnt ship it to my country… so ended up buying a kobo instead.
Thought that might be the case - thanks
It probably has to do with distribution rights and contracts. The same thing happens with music and movies. It’s bullshit, though. E-readers should by-pass this garbage. Kobo is just as bad as Kindle when it comes to this.
It worked! Even with a UK gift card - thank you very much!
You’re welcome, glad to hear it!
