Built in VPN for Wireless Router

I’m trying to get my parents hulu live tv but they’re retired and live in Mexico now. What is the best router for 1 gig internet that I can get them? I’ve seen Choices from Asus I’m leaning towards but wanted to hear from others, maybe someone in a similar situation.

i would not vpn off a consumer router
most do not have the cpu power for it.
don’t be impressed with 4 core routers
because a vpn section only uses 1 core,
the same one the wired transceivers use.

better to get a good android tv box and
run a software vpn client off of that,
along with the hulu live client.

Mikrotik. Look at hexS

Nearly all of them offer a solution for this so I won’t comment on brands but…

When setting up, avoid installing Netgear genie or whatever crap they’re pushing these days.

I always setup/lock down the router with it’s web interface. Plug in via Ethernet at first and navigate to 192.168.0.1 or whatever it’s subnet is.

Those apps are just more ways for telemetry and most have many features stripped for the sake of use.

I had a Netgear nighthawk for years. Great router. Eventually ditched the Netgear firmware for DDWRT. Not because of any issue it was just old enough I didn’t mind if it broke

An old Asus RT AC1900P still does the trick. I use two of these for vpn and Asus still updates the firmware. And yes, it works very well for the things you want to do.

I am very happy with mine.

Thanks! This sounds like the best choice
