At browser level the closest you will get to a vpn is a proxy addon.

I use PIA Proxy Extension on Chrome. Good stuff.
There are various VPNs where most of the client work is done in an application, but they also have an add-on to do more things such as ad-blocking.

I’ve used Windscribe add-on in the past, it’s pretty good. Although I’d still recommend you a desktop client.
Why do you want this?
A lot of VPN apps can allow for pass through of certain apps, so if you need some apps on VPN and some apps off.
The Opera Browser has one built in. It has always worked well for me.
Just be aware that any VPN browser add on has significant privacy issues and all of them are selling your data.

That if I use it my IP is shown differently to the companies that collect IP information. And Opera knows my IP but not my name
