NordVPN advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. They hide the requirements for this refund such that most people will never see them (buried in the Terms of Service and at the bottom of the pricing page below the testimonials and FAQ where most people will never see it, but not on the landing page where the guarantee is touted prominently twice). You have to apply for the refund within 30 days of purchase. Canceling within 30 days does not get you a refund, you have to contact them separately. If you contact them after 30 days, you will be denied.
The whole thing seems designed to get the benefits of marketing a 30-day money-back guarantee while minimizing the number of refunds that it actually gives, all while maintaining plausible deniability.
I thought the service was rather clunky, so I canceled after about a week, but this refund thing is what really sticks in my craw. What other hidden surprises are there? Do we have to scrutinize all the fine print because, as it turns out, they are not on your side?
I contacted them 3 days before the 30 day deadline for a refund. Their customer support then wasted 3 days of my time asking for hardware, OS, and network information. So conveniently, despite my refusal to provide such information, upon hitting the 30 day mark they finally acknowledged my request but denied it just the same.
I presented them with my two options.
Contact my business card provider and have the charges reversed due to fraudulent services.
Post everything on social media - proving their low IQ methods of detraction, deception, and just outright fraud. “We see you requested a refund… oh oops you’re now past the deadline, sorry!”
