Currently using surfshark, since they don’t have a tvOS app (and fail to give a timeline) thinking of switching to another service. Any recommendations?
I’m using NordVPN on AppleTV, clean and simple tvOS app. It’s fast, reliable, and does the job. This reddit post even has a verified nordvpn discount.
ExpressVPN has worked very well for me. Good, simple tvOS app. When it’s on, disconnecting from the control centre doesn’t work though, it keeps reconnecting until you go into the actual app to disconnect.

I can recommend Express VPN, which has the most variety of worldwide servers, except Scandinavian support, which is poor as i can see. Also, you can try Safeshell which is available to download on the app store and it’s connected with your apple ID, meaning you can start using it right away. It is rock steady when you connect to each server, and you can hardly see blurring or freezing picture. Didn’t found Nord VPN very reliable at the moment because at my side it keeps connecting/reconnecting all the time. Maybe after the next update fill fix that issue.

Now, since nord VPN has launched their tvos app, I would say nord VPN is the best alternative. I’ve used both nord and surfshark. For streaming nord is better. I’ve bought surfshark as nord VPN closed their India servers.
Now I usê nord VPN for general uses and pure VPN for India servers.
So happy you posted this. I was checking nearly every day once tvOS 17 came out so I could use a VPN and gave up checking. Express VPN has worked great for me on all my devices, and I’ll be downloading on my Apple TV shortly!

I live in Italy… how can I use a VPN app for? I heard you can access to content which isn’t normally streamed in your country… ok… but what content? Can someone give some examples? Just trying to understand if I really need a VPN app . Thanks!

This was happening to me as well. There is a “Connect on Demand” setting on the Apple TV that you have to turn off to be able to disconnect the vpn from the control center:
Settings>General> Scroll to bottom under VPN & Device management and select your VPN service. Then select Connection Details and turn off Connect on Demand.
Same here, does the job and well but would be nice to disconnect from control centre but I’m sure that will get fixed in an update.
No it does not. Netflix never works. Everyone keeps reporting the SSL Error.
