Hey,
What are the best free VPN clients for Mac?
Hey,
What are the best free VPN clients for Mac?
Tunnelblick. Best OpenVPN Client out there
What kind of VPN? For IPSec-based VPNs I like to use the built-in VPN capability without any external clients.
Just to be sure, are you asking for VPN client, or a VPN service. For client, macOS already comes with of built-in VPN client for IPSec and L2TP. If you want to connect to an OpenVPN server, then Tunnelblick is the best option.
If its free, you are the product! They make it free by selling off your information and habits. pay for a subscription from a trusted company
Free VPNs are horrible, stay away from them. Why risk exposing your data, when you can get a quality VPN for a couple of dollars? For example, Surfshark or Cyberghost, both of them are good, cheap picks.
forget about free VPN. That means problems.use mullvad – https://mullvad.net/en/I share it with 5 friends and it is 1$/month.
best vpn service i ever used.
If instead you just want the actually client software → openVpn → https://openvpn.net/community-downloads/
Don’t cheap out on a VPN
Pay for your VPN. Some of them have great sales.
Look at slickdeals.com and look for Private Internet Access. $55 for 3 years is a steal.
Not sure why you are getting downvoted.
Do people here really not see the benefit of paying for a VPN?
He’s asking for a client not a service
PIA works great if you are in the USA. Many of their other nodes in my experience were woefully slow. I am using NORD while abroad and have had a lot better results. Neither one keeps logs which is a huge plus
While for some cases this is true, a vast majority of free VPNs exist to harvest that data. They know people think of VPNs as a security/privacy tool, so it’s easier to trick them into thinking it’s a good thing.
So you downvote me instead of giving a logical explanation of how a service can work without making any money from any source? you clearly have no explanation. like I said, YOU are the product!
Completely defeats the purpose of a vpn if they’re collecting and selling your data, don’t ya think
then you tell me how they remain to be free?
Freemium model is hardly a new thing. Give away basic service to get people onto your platform, charge for better features/performance.
ProtonVPN, for example.
Yes, you’re partially correct, which would then make it not free… now would it?
If I have a game that is free to download but I can only play 10 minutes at a time unless I load more money into it, is the game free? Like I said the money has to come from somewhere!
PS I dont want a vpn thats selling me additional services, because guess what, they’re most likely giving your info out if they’re selling third party stuff through their platform
and a vpn serves a purpose, what more could they be selling, better connection speeds? more countries to be routed through? no thanks
What you have described is not ProtonVPN. It’s free and doesn’t have data limits. What you can pay to upgrade to are faster speeds, multiple devices, p2p, etc. A better analogy would be a game you can play forever for free, but if you want to unlock some new characters or better graphics or whatever, you can pay.
They’re pretty transparent about their business model. You’re just ranting against it without bothering to look into what it is you’re ranting against.
So in other words, it’s free because it’s being subsidized by those who pay for the upgrades. so no, it’s not free. otherwise, there wouldn’t be free upgrades. Like I stated originally, the money has to be coming from somewhere, did you not just prove my point?
and you’d be a fool to believe they don’t keep logs of your information. I’d rather pay a known, well respected company
a) You’re just talking yourself in circles. Yes, it’s subsidized by paid users. That’s why it’s free. They’re upfront about that being their business model. What kind of twisted logic makes that not free??
From their own website:
Why we offer a free VPN
We believe online privacy is a fundamental human right. Providing free access is part of our mission. The ProtonVPN free plan is unlimited and designed for security. No catches, no gimmicks. Just online privacy and freedom for those who need it.
Our free VPN service is supported by paying users. If you would like to support our mission, please consider upgrading.
b) Proton is very much a known, well respected company. They’re the same ones behind ProtonMail, which is a highly respected e-mail service for those who are concerned about privacy. Did you even bother to look up this company you’ve spent so much time trashing?
Our story began at CERN, where the web was born and where our founding team met. In 2014, on the 25th anniversary of the web, we built ProtonMail to make online privacy a reality again for millions of people around the world. The ProtonVPN project was born out of a need to better protect the activists and journalists that use ProtonMail.
In the years since we began as a crowdfunded project, ProtonMail and ProtonVPN continue to be primarily supported by our community and developed with community input. When it comes to fighting for online security and privacy, we have a long track record. Whether it is challenging governments, educating the public, or training journalists, we’re committed to staying on the front lines.
We are scientists, engineers, and developers, and we care deeply about the future of the Internet. We’re also experts in security and Internet technologies, and we’re applying this expertise for the public good. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.
