Been using Mcafee for about three years now and I’ve got a question

My yearly subscription is going to end and was gonna review until I started seeing wayyyy too many negative posts about Mcafee. I’ve seen multiples posts on multiple subs saying Mcafee is bad. Can anyone explain to me why?

McAfee and Norton have been 2 of the worst choices for decades.

Over priced, ineffective, intrusive, resource heavy.

Look at reviews for either Eset or Kasperskys solutions. Stay away from Norton,McAfee,AVG,AVAST,Trend Micro,Zone Alarm

there is no reason to use McAfee in 2023, period.

Intrusive and not effective. had multiple crashes somedays

McAfee, decades ago as well respected. However, as time has gone on, it has not kept up in protection. It uses tactics like scareware to get you to update. Dell computer at one time offered it on all new systems. However, I cannot think of any pc companies that include it, with the exception of Lenovo.

BitDefender, Kaspersky, ESet, etc, are good alternatives. Norton is good, but it is not my favorite as it once was.

Hey, if I’m being honest, the worst antiviruses you can choose are McAffee, Avira, and Kaspersky, they give false warnings, block basic programs, are easily fooled by malware, way too overpriced (mcafee is now trying to get the sense of urgency into people by doing 70% discounts on their subscriptions, so they dont die off, but their antivirus, as well as their customer service is crap, dont fall for the limited discount trap) etc. As far as antivirus goes, I prefer malwarebytes, as it’s fast, easy to use, has real-time protection (not a crappy one which gets bypassed easily), I’ve used it for over a year now with no problems, The price is great as well, it has a VPN included deal that I plan to get once my current subscription ends, by the way, it’s free for 15 days, so you don’t need a credit card to try it out, although I am sure you’ll love it and subscribe. I hope my advice helped you, thank you.

McAfee as an antivirus is alright. Scoring upto 80 percent (which is alright but not in top 5) detection but later on it has become a nagware. Loads of popups and unnecessary stuff to ask subscriber to upgrade to higher tier of suite.

Windows Defender over McAfee and Norton any day.

Bitdefender is good, so is eset.

You could also find an MSP that could provide you with Huntress and SentineOne for a comparable rate.

Mcafee - had it a couple of years, it had severe problems updating itself, often bricking itself making me reinstall or even restorepoint windows. it fetches not all malware too

+1 for Kaspersky and ESET.

You should try McAfee nowadays is verry good even better than eset at protection against 0 days, but unfortunately remains a still quite heavy product on resources usage.
Norton is better than McAfee tho and lighter.
Zone alarm is israeli using russian Kaspersky enginee, but their behaviour watcher is not good and is very heavy on the system most heavy security suite I ever tested.
I would not use Kaspersky personally as is a russian Putinist trumpist zionist threat.
Avast is the best free antivirus you can install on your computer.
Eset is the best antivirus in terms of very decent protection and the lightest antivirus suite you can install, I recommend you getting the premium eset if you use internet for very dangerous stuff.

Kaspersky is good though The other two are terrible

Kaspersky is not a threat and is outright the best protection you can get
