I found a thread from almost 3 years ago from someone asking for something basic and simple as Android TV auto connect feature while using the ProtonVPN Android TV app. Still not possible to achieve this. Why not? Is it going to be available, like ever?
I know that the app remains active if you put your TV in stand by, but if you turn it completely off (which I occasionally do from time to time) you have to remember to connect to it again, which kinda kills the point of a VPN. I also know I can use OpenVPN with ProtonVPN settings, but it only lets you use one server, and if it gets really loaded you can’t easily switch to a different one.
Updating since I have found some kind of work around. Is not ideal but since Proton is not addressing this after 3 years at least is something:
You’ll need to use Projectivy Launcher as far as I’m aware of (is the one that I use -and I really recommend it-, so I can’t tell about other launchers, not even the Android TV launcher). You have to hold the ‘OK’ button in your controller while hovering on the ProtonVPN app and hit the ‘Open on startup’ option. This way every time you completely turn off your TV and turn it on Projectivy will launch ProtonVPN app so you don’t forget about connecting it. If you put your TV in stand by mode the app won’t be launched since it will be already on.
