Hello, I am looking for an alternative to the VPN client Viscosity. My current VPN connection is a TCP over port 443 and obfuscated using OBFS4. I need a client that will support this (pluggable transports). Also needs to support macOS catalina. Any ideas?
It would also be good if I can share that connection (remember that I’m on a mac)
Thanks!
I’m using Viscosity, though not all the features you mention, on which does viscosity fall short?
Alternatives to Viscosity
- OpenVPN. OpenVPN is a full-featured open source SSL VPN solution that accommodates a wide range of configurations, including remote.
- WireGuard.
- SoftEther VPN.
- Tunnelblick.
- Shimo.
- OpenVPN Finder.
- fruho.
- Sidestep.
You can do that with any client if you are ok using an external device, like a travel router that has the vpn client. The external device can also share the tunneled connection to other devices via wifi or Ethernet.
Have you tried Tunnelblick? I’m not sure if it supports what you need but it’s the most popular Openvpn client for Mac.
I will note that Shimo is no longer supported; The devs have informed me that the OpenVPN project behind it is dated and no longer being worked on. fyi
I have, but I think Viscosity is the only one that I have found that supports pluggable transports, specifically obfs4.
I’m not very familiar with obfs4, but I know it’s possible to tunnel Openvpn over a socks5 proxy (Shadowsocks) using the socks-proxy directive with Tunnelblick.
